  1. 1. I liked the quote that DJ Gregory said about if he falls while walking the tour. "If I fall I fall, it's just another challenge. I'm gonna fall, you just get back up and learn from your mistakes".

    2. The purpose of this profile is to inform listeners about DJ Gregory's journey, his goals and how he achieved them. The profile gave us a background on DJ's life and his condition and then explained how he achieved his goals. I personally felt inspired by the profile because it showed that anyone is capable of achieving their dreams. Also to never give up on something you want.

    3. When I was younger I was friends with twin, dwarfs. They loved sports and were always involved in soccer. They always dreamed of playing on the soccer team once they got into high school. As they got older, keeping up with the other soccer players became harder. They did not give up and kept practicing and once they were in high school, the two of them were on the soccer team for all four years.

    1. I also liked the quote "If I fall I fall, It's just another challenge. I'm gonna fall, you just get back up and learn from your mistakes". This is a great quote that, really applies to more than just the tour, more so that it applies to life and that everyone faces their own individual challenges. Life has many challenges and obstacles, but the best thing to do is to pick yourself up, learn from those challenges, and become stronger.

  2. 1. I really liked how they opened with a serene scene and during the meat of the documentary you learned about his struggles, which weren't so peaceful, but towards the end of the documentary you go back to serenity; I liked how it came back full circle. I thought what his dad said was quite interesting, he said, "the downside of this journey is seeing some of the footage and seeing some of the reactions." We are outsiders looking into this mans uphill battle and I find it extraordinary that he's willing to share his story with the public, no matter how embarrassed he may feel sometimes. That makes him a very brave man.
    2. The purpose of this is to shed light on a hope, determination, will, heart, and facing struggles with a bold face. I think this documentary has shown us that it's not easy to achieve a goal. It's a lot of hard work and you have to work at it everyday, even if that means you fall sometimes. It also shows that it is worth working towards your goals and to overcome your challenges because the reward is much more powerful than the pain endured. DJ came to tears when asked about his last day of walking the PGA tour, he said "it'll be a tough day", "I will have achieved my goal." Coming so close to achieving what you set out to do 11 months prior has to feel so surreal.
3.DJ reminds me of someone who I strive to be like. Life gets hard, and sometimes it knocks you on your butt, but no matter what, it's important and necessary to get back up, learn from it, and grow. I will be lucky if I'm able to achieve the goals I set the way DJ achieved his with such bravery, will, and determination. I find him to be a very noble man.

    1. I had the same feelings that you did about your first question. When hearing about DJ's struggles and throughout the whole documentary it was really sad and not peaceful. It was a little painful to see someone go through something so terrible. Then in the end you come back to reality and think more about his situation. I liked how it made you do this too.

    2. I agreed with your first answer to question one about the serene scene in the opening. I think this video really grasped the challenges and struggles he faced, along with the accomplishments he has made. I love how you emphasized on the purpose being determination.

    3. I like how you said that DJ is someone you aspire to be like. I also agree. I like his attitude and how he said that you have to learn from your mistakes and get back up. I also like how you described the purpose of this short film.

  3. 1) It seemed at first because it was something the most if not all of the PGA golfers did not do that a lot of people thought that DJ's goal impossible to do. Yet, all of them seemed to agree that the idea was a simple one. His dad "There is not a player out here, that walks every round of every tournament. There is nobody. Nobody does that." Yet, DJ stayed positive and did not complain about the heat or ground being uneven.

    2) I thought the purpose of the profile was to be an inspiration to everyone. Here is this kid who is suffering from a debilitating disease that there is no known cure for and he is determined to not let his body get in the way of his goals and dreams. What I took away from the video was that to never give up. DJ's parents could have simply accepted the doctor's answer and put DJ in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Instead they fought for him during a time when he was unable to fight for himself and found a solution. May not have been the prettiest but it was better than nothing at all. In doing so, his parents, molded DJ into the man that he is today who is constantly challenging himself to do what other people would think impossible for him to do. DJ said " I am not embarrassed for who I am."

    3) I would say in connection with my life, DJ reminds me of a couple of individuals who have crazy dreams, myself included in those numbers. DJ reinforced my personal goal. That while life may get you down, do not wallow in it for too long and just get back up. Try to look at what you did wrong the last time and fix it. hopefully with enough fixes, you will eventually get it right.

I would challenge anyone to watch DJ's video and not get inspired in some way shape or form. Even if it's just used to get through the mountain of homework that is provided each day, it's something to be proud of when it's done. I will say that I will be more proud when I walk that stage with my degree in hand. Its the work on something small to achieve something big mentality. In DJ's words "if you have a dream, go after it."

    1. I agree with how you said that the purpose of this profile was to be an inspiration to others. I described the purpose of this profile the same way, and felt that it was made to show people to never give up on their dreams! I also liked how you persuaded others in the last paragraph to watch DJ's story.

    2. This profile was diffidently and inspiration I agree with you 100%. I'm not sure any one can watch this video and not feel inspired to achieve your goals the same way that DJ achieved his goal, i just have so much respect for this man. I really like how this can make the most insane dreams seem possible.

  4. 1) They way it showed him army crawling across the floor as a baby was something that really shot out to me. Even as a baby he was determined to get where he wanted to go without the use of his legs. His utter determination as he got older really showed what he wanted to accomplish with his life, and that was to be able to walk.
    2) What I thought to be the purpose of this profile was to show that anyone and everyone can accomplish their dreams if you set your mind to it. I loved how determined he was, It made me feel as though I was not working hard enough for my dreams, like I needed to be fighting and pushing through all the bad so that I can have some good. Fighting for my dreams is really what the message was saying and I love it.
    3) An old neighbor of mine who was about three years younger who also had cerebral palsy, was told she was supposed to die by the age of 13. She was far too overweight for her age and height. She took that hard and instantly starting changing the way she ate and functioned on a daily basis. It has been four years since then and she is still living and fighting for her life, only this time she is 70 pounds less in weight and so much stronger. She showed the strength to fight to survive and she continues to do so till this day.

  5. 1) After watching this documentary I couldn't help but notice a similar story as the one in the award winning movie Forrest Gump. The story of a man who too has Cerebral Palsy. These two stories are similar because each of them achieved something that not many people if any thought was possible. Also the image of DJ Gregory having to wear the braces was just like the braces that Tom Hanks had to wear in the film.

    2) The purpose of this profile is to infer the viewer. To inform the viewer that no matter what your struggle is in life and no matter what trials and tribulations someone may face, if you put your mind to it, you can achieve it. Not many people thought that DJ Gregory would have been able to walk 900 miles but he did it. Having faith is also a part of believing that anything is possible.

    3) My mom used to work at a camp during every summer up until the year I was born. This summer camp consisted of kids who had special needs including cerebral palsy. My mom along with the other various camp counselors would take the kids every year one week to a lake that had many fun things to do. The place not only had a lake, but a swimming pool, an obstacle course, and a tire swing. This place seemed awesome and my mom used to tell me stories of how much the kids loved it. This place made these kids feel free and not judged. These kids like DJ Gregory deserve to live a normal and happy life.

    1. I like how you related this to Forrest Gump. I didn't think of this when I watched the video but now that I read your answer to question one I totally see what you mean. It's a cool similarity because I think a majority of people have seen this movie and could have the same similarity after reading your comments like I did.

      Delete
    2. I agree that there was similarities with the Forest Gump movie with DJ's story. Both seemed driven to overcome the obstacles that their very own body was presenting them while their lives were just beginning.

I think that it was great that your mother was able to be apart of the summer camp and show them that there is a whole world before them and the only real limit is time. I feel that your mom instilled the same values in those summer campers as she did with you. That anyone can do anything, if you set your mind to it. It may not be the exact same way that their friend did it, but that the possibly is there, so long as you are willing to work for it.

  6. 1.) After watching this, something that really stood out to me was the fact that he had five surgeries on his legs. I don't know from experience, but my step dad had a club foot when he was born and had to had multiple surgeries. A club foot is normally something that would not allow you to ever have to comfort or strength in that foot to run, or do anything extremely active, but he went on to play soccer, and wrestled all through high school. It just really seems impressive and amazing at the same time when someone over comes something that extensive, and not only meets the challenge but exceeds the challenge.

2.) The purpose of this documentary is to use DJ Gregory as an example for people to overcome the impossible, as long as you have the determination to overcome it. The point is to prove that anyone can over come challenges and can prove doubters wrong as long as they have the strength within themselves. Faith is the key.

3.) I went to high school at Olentangy Orange, and there was a couple of special needs kids there. One of them named Garrison, just wanted to be like all the other kids in high school. One of the nicest kids I ever met, always handing out hugs, and saying he liked your shoes, or you looked nice that day. No one ever outcasted him or made him feel as if he didn't deserve to be treated normally... That was amazing to me, I loved seeing everyone treat him fairly and never make him feel like an outcast. Just like any other kid, kids with special needs need to be treated the same as anyone else, they didn't ask for their condition.

    1. I think it's awesome that your dad has had an experience that can relate to DJ's. I can't personally imagine what it feels like mentally, physically, or emotionally to go through surgeries that are quite extensive. I can appreciate how you believe having faith is key, I too, think that faith can get you through the most challenging of situations. Good job!

    2. I love your example about the boy Garrison from your high school. I had someone just like that from Worthington Kilbourne. He sounds like a great guy. I just wish that people would always treat people fairly and normally regardless of the diagnosis.

    3. I think it's great that your dad was able to overcome is leg issue and get involved in the sports he had. His story sounds similar to DJ's. I also really enjoyed reading about Garrison. Although he had physical issues, he was still treated normally by everyone and thats incredible.

  7. 1. The first thing that hit me was the fact that he has cerebral Pulsey. The fact that he can walk at all is nothing short of a miracle which many others with this problem wish they could do. Another thing that must have been incredibly rough on him was having 5 surgeries before he was even in first grade! I could not imagine going through that and still having the motivation that DJ has.

    2. The purpose of this is to showcase DJ. It teaches us a little about cerebral pulsey and then shows how much of a miracle it is that DJ can walk. It also teaches us not to take things for granted. DJ knew what it was like to be unable to walk, so once he could, he cherished the ability by walking every hole of every course that year.

    3. I can relate to this because there are a few students who went to my high school that have this condition. One in particular comes to mind that I worked with throughout middle school. He has the condition worse than DJ does and was also never supposed to walk. I lost touch with him towards the end of high school, but saw him at the beginning of this summer at the rec center. With the help of braces and a special walker, he was walking laps on the track. This was truly heartwarming and inspiring to me and will never be forgotten.

    1. I agree with your take on the video. I also think that it teaches us a great lesson that we should never take things for granted. Its also nice to see that you have dealt with people with this condition on a personal level so you know just how much it effects people!

    2. I like what you said about DJ having the motivation he still has, even after the five surgeries. It is an incredible thing to overcome that and after facing all of that adversity, to stay positive and remember to push yourself and achieve the impossible.

  8. 1)It was crazy how someone who was told would be in a wheelchair the rest of his life, would walk 900 miles in a span of a year. DJ’s dream for sure showed that anything is possible.
2)The purpose of this profile was to show and inform the viewers about DJ’s story. His story was not only unbelievable but inspiring. I took out of the video was to never give up on your dreams because anything is possible if you just put your mind to it. He challenged himself of something that no one thought would be possible and that was very inspiring.
    3) I knew of a few students at my school with Cerebral Pulsey. I did not actually talk with them, but by observation you could tell it would be a difficult thing too achieve walking 900 miles. It was awesome to see how DJ achieved that goal of his with Cerebral Pulsey.

    1. I also thought that it was crazy how someone could walk 900 miles even though they were told that they would be in a wheel chair the rest of their life. His story was inspiring. Anyone can achieve their dreams if they just put their mind to it.

  9. 1. When I first started watching this, I thought it would be more about DJ's game of golf. And within the first 3 minutes I was amazed that he was walking all around instead of using a golf cart. The the segment quickly switched to my exact thought and focused on that. I also found it interesting that he would count how many times he would fall. In a shot of him falling, he immediately got up and said he was alright. He helped himself up and kept moving which amazed me.
    2. This profile identified someone who had a particular issue with his legs but wouldn't let it slow him down. While watching it, I had many mixed emotions from sadness to happiness just by seeing what DJ was going through and the recognition he was receiving for the goal he was achieving. It can easily give everyone who can relate to DJ a sense of hope.
    3. I can't really compare DJ's story to my own life but I can look at his story and discover that there is hope for everyone, no matter what situation he/she is in. DJ was told he would never be able to walk but he wouldn't accept that and with the help of his parents and his persistence to achieve his goal, he was able to walk. Looking up to DJ as an example, anyone including myself can do anything with the right mindset.

    1. I thought the same thing when I first started watching this documentary, then to my surprise it was about his life journey. I really like how you used DJ as an example in your own life, I as well think he's a great guy to look up to because he sets an amazing example. It's amazing how this story can make you happy and sad and regain hope. Good job!

    2. The image that you described in your first question of DJ falling and proceeding to stand back up on his own, and continue walking was definitely the most powerful image throughout the whole profile. I thought it was amazing how much drive DJ had in that very moment. That visual alone inspired me to take a step back and ask myself if I work that hard every day. Self-Realization came into play for me after watching the profile. Good work on your comment!

    3. I had the same exact thought as you. I thought this was just going to be a documentary about a golfer and kinda boring, but i found the whole video to be very inspiring overall. I also love how you connected the DJ story to overall hope. Great comment!

  10. 1. Something I found really interesting about this video was the part when his mother said "He's really into sports but couldn't actually play." I found this so interesting because it could relate to so many children in this world. Not even just people with his same struggles, but others with different diseases. He was told that he wasn't going to be able to walk, and look what he accomplished. I think this could be extremeley inspiring to many people out there and I like that.

    2. I think the purpose of this profile is to share his wonderful achievement and for others to be motivated to reach their goals. I couldn't imagine all the people in this world with goals not as crazy as being able to walk the entire PGA tour, and I think after seeing this they could rethink some things. I know he said he doesn't like to see himself on television, but I think his accomplishment is so awesome maybe he would enjoy inspiring others with this profile. During the video I had really sad feelings, it made me upset to see someone so motivated and to love something so much to have to go through something so hard. After watching it though, and thinking about it now, I feel differently. I feel better about it, it really is inspiring and awesome to see someone go through something so terrible like this throughout their life but then achieve something so awesome. I loved it. It makes me want to be more positive and hard working with things not nearly as cool as he did.

    3. I had one connection that I thought of a lot during this video. In high school I was in a business marketing program called DECA. We worked with Honor Flight in helping to raise money for wounded warriors. One activity that we did to help get the word out around our high school was invite a veterin to the school to speak to the entire school. The veteran that we invited had no legs. He lost them when he was serving and his accomplishments reminded me of DJ's. This veteran is in a wheel chair with no legs and has had so much drive and motivation to continue things in his life that he loves to do, like swimming for example. Both of these stories bring similar emotions to me.

  11. 1.I liked when he said,"I'm not embarrassed for who i am." he kept falling and he got up still he wanted to be success his goal. he was very tolerate man.

2.the purpose of this profile was don't give up one day you will success in your life. DJ was disable to do everything but he never give up his hope.I felt everything you try you will do because this man he was struggle but he did not said himself he can't do this things.

3.DJ remembered me one of my friend have two twin join together and they used go school together everything they doing together. one of them told the doctor they will go surgery to be split together but unfortunate one of them will die.they refused to do that surgery, they were happy how they lived together.

    1. In my active notes I took during this video, I also jotted down DJ's words when he said, "I'm not embarrassed of who I am..it's just hard sometimes." This part of the video made me smile, but it also made me sad when his dad became emotional about DJ feeling embarrassed of what he looked like when he saw himself on TV. I couldn't imagine, as a parent, having to see your own kid struggle and know there is, at sometimes, a feeling of embarrassment within them. I enjoyed reading your comments.

    2. I really like the quote that you chose from the documentary. Even though DJ had a few problems, he was able to work through them. Also, the story about your friend and their twins is incredible. Even when your friend knew the problem could be fixed, she decided against it so a life wouldn't be take. Thats incredible.

  12. 1. one moment that really stuck out to me is when the man pointed out how DJ's toes overlap, and how he would half to apply "8 or 9 bandages" in order to prevent blisters. I thought that was crazy. For one reason being it would be extremely painful to keep doing that, and for the fact that he kept going. He never gave up despite having to go through a lot of pain.

    2. The purpose of this profile was to show how one man can go from being told that he would never be able to walk in his life to walking over 900 miles at the 2008 PGA tour. He never gave up on his dream and he continued to work hard and in irder to achieve it. From this i can really take inspiration and respect for this man. He has done something that no one has ever done and not many people actually believing he could do it. DJ was never supposed to be able to walk again, yet he probably has walked more and farther than most Americans will walk in their life. And to me that is an inspiration.

    3. In a way DJ reminds me of my Grandpa. he was very independent and always wanted to complete a task without the help of others. Which I could really respect. He used a cane to walk just like DJ and technically was considered disabled but he still always insisted on doing everything himself. These two men I respect very highly because I myself would never want to have to rely on others to help me in every step of my life.

    1. I like the way you answered question 2, because I also felt really inspired by this man. When the profile stated that the overall walking distance was going to be 900 miles, I was really really impressed. All i could think about was the amount of time he was willing to take to achieve this goal of walking 900 miles. That's just crazy to think about!

  13. 1. I found it very encouraging and empowering in the fact that he kept track of every fall he took in order for him to learn from them. He knew he would make those mistakes just like every one else, but its the fact that he would get up every time and stand taller than before.

    2. I think the purpose of this profile was to show people just how accomplishable dreams really are if you just put your mind, heart and sould into something. DJ was told since his childhood that he would never be able to walk, but he faced those odds because he had dreams of that defied them.

    3. I have a good friend Anthony who has always had a dream of serving in the Peace Corps. It has always seemed like a stretch of a dream, however recently he had gotten his letter of acceptance and left for Peru last week. This was something that no one had doubted him about, but it was a long time dream that had been accomplished.

    1. Hi Liz! I agree with you that the purpose of this profile was to show how anyone can accomplish their dreams if they just put their mind to it and believe. That is awesome that your friend achieved his dreams of serving in the Peace Corps.

    2. Liz! I also found it very encouraging that he kept track of all of his falls in order to learn. The fact that he was excepting of his mistakes so he could learn from them is very admirable. I also agree with your purpose.

  14. 1. After watching the video, i'd say the part that I remember the most was the pictures/videos and stories of DJ's childhood. They told a story of how he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and how the doctor's said that he wouldn't be able to walk. To me, this created a foundation for the video, and it showed that he did learn to walk, and didn't let his condition get the best of him.

    2. I feel that the purpose of this profile was to show how anyone (regardless of disabilities) can accomplish their dreams and goals just like anyone else can. DJ walked over 900 miles, and interviewed players at 44 tournaments, for 45 weeks, and 180 rounds. I'd say he accomplished a lot for someone who has a disability like he did. DJ achieved his goals, and I feel that this profile was to show how he did, and the obstacles that he had to overcome to get there.

    3. In the video there is a quote that says if you fall, get right back up and learn from your mistakes, and although I can't relate to DJ as much, I can agree with him on this quote. In life many detours and road blocks may come your way, but you have to learn to deal with them head on.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I also used "if you fall, get right back up" for a quote in my response for #2. There are many detours and road blocks that come our way and if DJ could get right back up after his falls, those of us who don't have a disability (or some sort of road block as big as his) we have no excuse to not get back up if we fall, DJ inspired me in that sense. I enjoyed reading your comments.

  15. 1. In my notes I wrote down a variety of quotes, and though many might have noticed this one particularly, I found it to have so much more meaning coming from DJ, "If I fall, I fall, it's just another challenge; I'm gonna fall, it's just the way it is." So many people use the expression "If you fall you just gotta get right back up again" and it made me realize that their are people like DJ that have tougher situations to live with everyday, and if those people can get up and if DJ can get up after literally falling then those of us who don't have to live with those more difficult situations have no excuse not to get back up. 'falling' is part of life.

    2. I think the purpose of this profile is to inspire people and make it known that just because their might be someone at some point in your life who tells you that you can't do something, that doesn't mean you can't. Like it said in the video, doctors told DJ he'd be in a wheelchair the rest of his life and the next thing you know he has his footsteps covering more than 900 miles on just golf courses alone.

    3. I can't make a connection with DJ in terms of a disability but while watching the video, and knowing what it's personally like to walk just 9-holes for a golf match, I tip my hat to him, it's not an easy walk.

    1. I agree with you when you said "falling is part of life." It would be tough and I couldnt imagine being told you would be in a wheelchair the rest of your life, but then achieve something awesome like DJ did with walking over 900 miles.

  16. 1) Something that I found while listening to DJ Gregory's profile was a very powerful quote that I think some people might've overlooked. In his profile, someone is interviewing DJ Gregory and he says, "If I see myself on national television, i'll actually look away from the tv." He said this because he feels that the way he carries himself is embarrassing. I just thought that those were very powerful words from Gregory, because in my mind, I find him to be a role model for other people who are out there that are afraid to try. This is the most important quote of the video to me.

    2) The purpose of this profile is to show the hardships that someone with a specific disability (Cerebal Paulsy in this case) has to go through, and how they overcome it. This story is inspirational to me because it makes me want to push further and try as hard as possible to reach my goals as a person. Even though my hardships are nothing compared to Gregory's, he has still taught me to work hard and overcome every obstacle I come to. Even when people say I can't do something.

    3) DJ reminds me of my brother Clayton. He reminds me of him because my brother tore a ligament in his right foot which ended his football season as a senior in high school. Even though he is unable to play football his last year of high school, he still manages to roll onto the field with his knee roller to watch every single game all the way through. I know it has to be extremely hard for him to watch the game he loves and not be able to participate in it. I've never asked him his personal feelings about it, but his facial expressions on the field during the games speak a thousand words.

    1. The quote where DJ said "If I see myself on national television, i'll actually look away from the tv" I found to be sad. I think he should be proud of his accomplishments and how far he has come and hopefully he knows how amazing it was what he did. I also agree when you said he should be a role model for other people who are out there that are afraid to try.

    2. I 100% agree with you about the inspiration that DJ Gregory represented to anyone who watched or knew of his story.Which moving in itself.

I am sorry to hear about your bother getting hurt. The thought of knowing that during his senior year that he was unable to play the very game that he loved must have been heartbreaking for him as well as you. I am glad that in the end he still put the effort in making sure that he went to every game to watch instead of pulling all of his frustration within himself and become a hermit. That showed his strength and dedication as not only a player but a spectator as well. Number 3, to me, was very well put.

  17. 1. As the video came to end, DJ said at the very end "If you have a dream go after it. Don't let anyone tell you, you can’t". He said this as he was finishing up on his hole, and i think that is amazing. Even though he has a disability, he took that in, and set out to prove that he would not let anyone tell him no. It’s always easier to just move on if you don't do something right, but the best feelings come from trying again and again until you get over that obstacle. I think that DJ is an inspiration.

    2. I think the purpose of this profile was to help inspire people to go out and chase their dreams. It never is easy, and there will be hardships and struggles, but you have determination and hope that you will achieve your dream. There is no such thing as a dream that’s too big or too little. I think that this profile shows that even though DJ had a disability, he made his dream come true, and that anyone can as well.

    3. A boy in my high school had a mental disability. He walked around the school every morning, saying hello to people. He became the un-official school mascot. Whenever you spoke to him, he always had a smile on his face, and never once said anything that was mean to anyone. He would say that we should keep our heads up and move forward. He always stayed positive and wanted everyone around him to be as well.
