Share 2 books and 1 skill/hobby in Comments section. From Mike Lohre

Students, let's share the 2 books we most want to read with the rest of the class and one specific skill or hobby you'd like to pursue or learn.  Briefly describe who wrote each book and what its main theme or subject is.

The truth is that we are often inspired by our peers more than anyone else.  Let's share our ideas here in the Comments section to this post so we have all our ideas in one place and can reference each others ideas.

  1. This comment has been removed by the author.

  2. The two books I would like to read is The Hobbit and The Lost Symbol, a skill I would like to obtain is learning how to play guitar. I find that learning how to play guitar would be easily obtainable because my boyfriend plays, and has multiple guitars of his own.

  3. The specific skill/hobby I would like to pursue is cooking.
The first book I would like to read is Heaven is for Real by Todd and Colton Burpo. It is a book about a child who died and went to heaven but is now alive and able to talk about what he experienced.
The second book I would like to read is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It is about a scientist who creates a "monster" who later goes on a killing spree for not getting the attention from his creator.

  4. I would like to read the Bible and 1984 by George Orwell. I would also like to learn how to play the guitar as my skill.

The Bible is a book that's written by multiple authors about the word of God. Both Christianity and Judaism are based off The Bible

1984 by George Orwell tells how the government will continue to grow and will one day always be watching us.

  5. Books:
    1) Pride & Prejudice- Jane Austen wrote this and the subject is to get all of the daughters married.
    2) Divergent- by Veronica Roth and subject is about hiding her identity.

I would like to widen my vocabulary.

  6. Two books that I am eager to read in the future would be All the Light We Can Not See: A Novel by Anthony Doerr and Leaving Time: A Novel by Jodi Picoult. One skill that I have recently found I have a passsion for would be photography. I think taking classes in this subject would greatly enhance my interests and would allow me to pursue my interests in creative prospects.

  7. 2 books that I would like to read are:
    1. Fifty Shades Darker (2nd book of the Fifty Shades Trilogy)
    E. L. James wrote this series of erotic romance that includes 3 books on two characters and their deepening romance. The First installment Fifty Shades of Grey was an excellent book, and it left me wanting to read more.

    2. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Heard it was a good book)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower was written by Stephen Chbosky, and it is a story about a teenager who writes anonymous letters to a stranger. I've recently been hearing that it is a great book. Which is why it has caught my interest!

A skill/hobby that I hope to accomplish is:
    1. Make new YouTube Videos
    2. Also write & blog more

  8. The first book I would like to read is Age of Ambition by Evan Osnos. This is a book written by the Beijing correspondent for The New Yorker about the inner history of China during a moment of profound transformation. The other book I chose is The Last Magazine by Micheal Hastings. This was found in Hastings files after his untimely death in 2013. It is a funny novel about an intern at The Magazine. A skill I would like to learn is cooking.

  9. Two books that I want to read are Gone Girl and Fifty Shades of Grey. Gone Girl is by Gillian Flynn. It's main theme or subject is about a man Nick Dunne and if he has to do with the disappearance of his wife. Fifty Shades of Grey is by author E.L. James. It's theme is about a college graduate getting involved in an erotic relationship with a business man. I have heard so many good things about both of these books. Gone Girl just came out in theaters as a movie and Fifty Shades of Grey is supposed to come out in February. My goal is to read both of these books before I see the movies. One hobby that I would like to pursue in the next year is yoga.

  10. 1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Stephen Chbosky. The subject of the book is to be abe to relate to teenagers and how they are feeling.
    2. The Hunger Games. Suzanne Collins. The book is about a sister who volunteers to compete in the hunger games instead of having her little sister fight. She is required to fight to the death unitl one person is left.

Skill. I would like to learn how to snowboard. My family alaways goes to Mad River and snowboards but I have always skied. So this year I would like to learn how to snowboard.

  11. One book I'm really excited to read is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It tells the tale of a young boy who sets out to collect a treasure unlike any other before. Along the way he was make decisions that could effect his life, and try to figure out if this treasure is worth his life.
Another book is American Psycho by Easton Ellis. I really liked the movie, and I think the book would be even better. Its all centered around Patrick who is an investment banker and a serial killer on the side. This book is about power, and what were willing to do to get it.
A hobby that I want to pick up is learning how to paint. It has always been something that I wanted to do, and now is as good as any.

  12. I would like to read "Lone Survivor" by Patrick Robinson. I really was intrigued by the movie and would like to compare the similarities and differences to the book, and maybe understand on a deeper level what the seals went through.

  15. The hobby that I wanted to take up was crochet.

I will say that I must have been hungry when I thought about the two books that I wanted to read. The first book that I wanted to read was titled Squeezed by Alissa Hamilton. It is suppose to be a story going over the nature of orange juice and give more information about the difference between concentrate and non concentrate.

The second book that I wanted to read was titled Where am I eating by Kelsey Timmerman. It follows the lines of foods from around the world and tells you what some of the more popular meals are actually come from. I just hope when I do get a chance to read them that I will not give up the foods that I love because of what I uncover from both books.

  16. My two hobbies that I wish to get better at is both golf an playing the piano.

One book that i am really interested in reading is a book titled Killing Kennedy. This is a non-fiction novel written about arguably the best President of The United States. My dad has read it multiple times and continues to recommend this book to me. It's only a matter of time before I pick it up and hopefully never put it down.

The second book I am interested in reading is The Wolf of WallStreet. This is a story about the actual guy, Jordan Belfort and his triumph and failure. He wrote this book in jail. If you haven't seen the movie yet I highly recommend it to anyone who loves movies and loves to laugh!

  17. The two books that I want texplore are "Robinson Crusoe" by Daniel Defoe, and "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair.

Robinson Crusoe: This is a narrative about a man who wants to travel the sea against his parents' wishes. It also tells of the many adventures Robinson endures while traveling the open sea. (Hardships as well)

It's about a white girl who works with some black maids to write a book to try to get people to treat black people better. The other book I'm interested in reading is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte which is set in England in the 1800s. It's about a girl around the age of 18 or so who gets a job taking care of a little girl and discovers a mystery in the house that she has to solve. My "skill" more so a challenge for me is to get involved in some sort of club around school.
