Exploration Two By Nathan N.

By the way, I don't wear glasses.

Hello my name is Nathan Nagler. My fun fact on Thursday was that I hope to move to Belize one day to retire. I attend both the Delaware and Marion campuses of Ohio State. I am currently undecided on what major i want to go into , but i have thought about going into mortuary science. I enjoy hiking, camping and playing disc golf in my free time.

Eudor A. Welty was an American author who was born in April 13, 1909 and died in July 23, 2001. She had her first short story posted in a magazine in 1936, and after being published she began to appear regularly in the magizine. She went on to write full novels and even won the Pulitzer award for her novel "The Optimist's Daughter" in 1972. I find it amazing how she was able to accomplish so much so long ago and at such a early age. I believe setting a name for yourself in 1936 in quite an accomplishment due to m\the current world issue overtakingg the country such as The Great Depression and World War II. She again set a name for her self in another difficult time, the 1970's, when things like The Cold War and The Vietnam War were going on.      The poem that I enjoyed the most was the "Songs for the People". In my opinion the poem held  a very positive tone and message. The message being that the author is going to make songs for everybody that will fill people with joy in hard times in there life. The peom seems to be written in a older style of English so it can be a little difficult to follow, but it adds to message in my opinion. I was really able to enjoy this poem over many other poems o have read because i enjoys writings that can bring a unlifting view to people and diffrent situations.

My favorite word in the poem I read, is the word "strife". Strife means to fight against one another or to be opposed against someone or something else. The word is not the most important word metioned in the poem, but I like how flows in the poem and how the meaning of using it in the poem is to not bring strife to others. The word dates back to the early 1200's in the old french language and is used as a noun. For example the word could be used in a sentence such as, "The two political party leaders held a deep strife against one anothers political veiws."

  1. I like your poem decision being Songs for the People. I completely agree with how the writer is in a sense trying to make the people feel better by telling them that they are going to write a song to help soothe their troubles. The message I think is that music can help solve problems, if not just numb them for a little bit.

  2. I have visited Belize before on a cruise and I loved it. It was probably one of my favorite stops we made while on the cruise and I hope to go back and visit. The word you chose I have never heard before. I'm surprised that it is such an old word and I have never heard of it.

  3. I've always wanted to visit Belize. From what I hear its a beautiful place, and your desire to retire there makes me want to visit just much more. I never knew that the word strife was so old. It's not one of the words that you hear frequently and im glad to know where it comes from.
