Give Yourself the Gift of Not Worrying about Money

Casual purchases are what are causing us to be broke.  Mr. Money Mustache, uses an example of a guy he works with that casually picks up a cup of coffee every morning on his way to work and a $5.00 pack of cigarettes but then complains about having no money.  If these expenses were eliminated or at least cut back, we could be saving so much money and/or increasing our net worth each month.  Riding your bike, cooking your own food, conducting your own commerce on craigslist, and etc. will create a money surplus.  But when going out on a night on the town, drinks, parking, and dinner all create a costly budget, but instead of constantly worrying about how much you're spending, start to worry less.

"Financial problems are caused by not thinking enough about money." A positive to this blog would be the focus on the casual purchases.  We all do them, but in reality they are draining our accounts, as we don't notice the amount we are actually spending each week or month, which could ultimately add a good amount of cash back into our accounts.

"Start feeling rich".  Another strength of this blog is how he emphasizes how much we should allow ourselves to give in to indulgences and occasional mistakes.  In reality we should be letting go of the worry and embracing the surplus that is in our accounts.  That does not mean you have to spend rich, but let yourself feel that way as this will make you feel so much better.

This writing style definitely captured my  attention but immediately comparing the casual expenses to an everyday persons life, who just so happens to be struggling through the weeks in terms of money.  This blog might be so popular because it talks about everyday struggles that our society may go through, as our society is constantly struggling with money and how we spend it.  People who make tons of money and that do not properly spend their money may not find this very interesting as they may think that it is irrelevant and not want to admit that this is about them as well.  People who are looking to make money or learn how to wisely spend their money may want to follow this blog as it may help them in the future.  I was definitely interested in this blog because I know I am a casual spender and it hurts my account each week.   I did enjoy this blog and will more than likely be reading more of them eventually because it seems to have some not so terrible tips on money saving.

  1. This blog post seems interesting. I can totally see where he is coming from on this situation. I know people too who complain about having no money, but continue to eat out every single day and make stud purchases like coffee and cigarettes. It doesn't make sense to me because I feel like they should know why they have no money it's obvious and a REALLY easy fix.

  2. I think many people could relate to your article. People don't realize that buying a little coffee each morning eventually adds up. I know I spend a lot f my money on fast food and do not realize how much it adds up until I check my bank account. I agree that people can easily fix this problem and save money

  3. I don't agree with some of the things MMM writes about but I do agree with this blog post of his. Whenever I'm trying to cut back my expenses and save money, my casual trips to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts is the first thing to go. It's amazing how much you can save by eliminating these "casual purchases". I enjoyed reading your review, great post.

  4. I can definitely relate to this post because i too have issues with money sometimes, and when it comes right down to it, cutting back on the casual purchases such as coffee from Starbucks, and fast food all help in the long run. I liked in your concluding paragraph when you mentioned that, "our society is constantly struggling with money and how we spend it." I think that statement really hits close to home when financial well-being comes up in the conversation among the every day population. Because we ARE constantly being thwarted by temptation, and in the end money is what gets pulled out of our wallets as a solution. I really liked your blog Mackenzie! Nice job! :)
