Exploration 4 Justin Cygnor

Part 1: Before researching, I didn't know anything about the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. What struck me was that out of the entire population, young college students were the ones protesting.  Through education and understanding the history of the government, the young students wanted to see change and acted. The way the Chinese government retaliated was shocking to everyone and is very unforgettable.  This event clearly identifies the intensity of the Chinese government.

Part 2:

Hong Kong Protests: In this picture it shows the Hong Kong chief executive Leung Chun-ying with fangs added. This poster is an example of how the people of Hong Kong feel about the not having a voice in the governement and how they want things to change.

Tiananmen Square: In this picture, one is able to see the large amount of people rebelling and protesting against the government. It really shows the unity and how important bringing about change was to the people of China.

Part 3:
The articles I read were about the 43 students missing in Mexico. A large amount of suspects are being detained and the majority of them are police. A mass grave was found with at least 28 bodies found burned and buried. The CNN article I read included quotes describing the scenario of the attack  and how the police were being accused of working with a criminal group in order to bring about the attack. The New York Times article gets straight to the point and claims the police definitely open fired on the students due to the strike of the 6 students killed.
Both articles were good sources but NYtimes was more in depth and looked at the police as automatic killers, while CNN was more soft on that aspect.

  1. I like the images you chose and the way that you described them. I also found the article that you did to be very interesting, and I agree on the differences between the two articles.

  2. I never knew about the missing students in Mexico. It seems like a crazy idea that the police would open fire on them, when their job is to protect these people. Not to mention that the bodies of those people were burned. I could never imagine a situation when the police would act out and shoot and burn the bodies of people who were simply striking.

  3. Cynoy,

I really felt touched by your picture that really captured the emotional and powerful stance that a bagillion people had the same opinion, and all wanted the same thing. NEAT!!! I really did enjoy reading your exploration, it had a lot of great information.
